Awase means a kimono with a lining.  It is worn from October to next May.  When it is the changing of the seasons, you may want to use ‘Awase’and ‘Hitoe’ kimonos properly.


Hitoe means a kimono without a lining. It is worn in June and September.

It is useful for the changing of the seasons for example from spring to summer and summer to autumn.

Summer clothes

Natsu-mono means a kimono for summer. It is worn in July and August.

‘Ro’and ‘Sha’kimonos are popular during that season. They mean a type of gauze fabric made from silk. Hemp and cotton kimonos are also worn in summer.
